10 Tactics to increase Twitter engagement

increase twitter engagement

Twitter can be a really useful platform for any size of type of business. It can also prove useless if you are not implementing the right type of engagement tactics. This blog will focus on 10 of the most important tactics to help increase Twitter engagement levels.

1. Keep your tweets short.
Studies have shown a 17% higher level of engagement when they contain no more than 110 characters. The reasoning behind this is that users often like adding a short message to their re-tweets, a task that requires a lot of work when the original tweet is of the permitted 140 characters.

2. Tweet during daytime hours.
Make sure you tweet when your target audience is awake. Your tweets will receive a 30% higher interaction between the traditional ‘office hours’, that is 8 am and 7 pm. Use a tool like Tweriod, it will help you know when your followers are on-line.

3. Keep tweeting over the weekend.
Never stop the content flow. Even if you aren’t at work twitter engagement can be up to 17% higher on Saturdays and Sundays.

4. Share Images.
A visual aid can increase twitter engagement as it is is more appealing than just text. People find video content more engaging and interesting. By doing this you can potentially increase your engagement by even 150%. Remember the images and videos should be relevant to what you are saying in your tweet.

5. Ask for Re-tweets.
It may seem silly, but if you ask you are more likely to get a re-tweet. More re-tweets mean more people can see your tweets, leading to higher engagement levels.

6.Use Hashtags.

The use can double your engagement rate, but be careful, they can be potentially damaging. We suggest you keep to 2 or less hashtags per tweet. It works the same way as keywords, the key is quality not quantity. Use industry-related hashtags when you can and make sure you know what is trending.

7. Include links.
92% of Twitter engagement involves a link being clicked on twitter. Don’t worry about the amount of character limit as Twitter will reduce the length of the URL automatically. But if you want to do it yourself you can use sites such as Bitly or Google’s own URL shortner.

8. Avoid Lifestyle Tweets.
Your a business, on’t get carried away with talking about your day-to-day life as users are not usually interested. Focus on marketing your brand. Use words that a reader will find interesting and drive them to engage.

9. Use calls to action.
Ask your followers to do something, doing so will push them to engage. Use words such as please, re-tweet, help, follow and how to are great when it comes to increasing your Twitter engagement levels.

10. Send 1 to 4 Tweets a day.
Make sure the stream of tweets is steady and regular. Remember quality is better than quantity. Over tweeting can be counter-productive.
