Keyword Density: A how to guide

keyword density understanding

The responsibility that rested on keyword density has shifted.

Over 5 years, Google has changed the importance they give to keywords and the search engine algorithms now prefer we-written and relevant content. This is down to the fact that, after many studies about keyword density in on-line content, web pages with an exaggeration of keywords being repeated, were generally to be considered poorly written.

In 2011 Google rolled out an update known as Panda, this ultimately shifted the importance from keyword stuffing to a compromise of keywords and quality.

Here is a list of 3 things everyone writing content should be aware of in 2015.

1. Content can be king
The title is self-explanatory. You should always focus on the content not what words you use but the message. When you come up with a post or an article, make sure it is relevant to your audience, it is capturing and entertaining. Google will always promote a website that people love. If you can focus on the people that will read your posts rather than cramming in keywords you will have done part of the hard work.

2. Try putting keywords in your headline
Keyword stuffing is the opposite of what you want to do, in fact Google will strongly penalise those who do. A good suggestion for the SEO beginners is to add a keyword in your headline. Most businesses benefit from simply adding a simple keyword in the headline and in the body of the article. Doing so gives you a certain SEO relevance and allows you to focus on the important thing, getting the message across.

3. Avoid too many keywords
The best percentage of keyword density is around 1% and 3%. This is easy enough to calculate, if your article is 300 words long then you really don’t want it to show up more than 9 times. Google will calculate this automatically and if you have too many keywords in your content you will go down in the rankings.

To sum it all up, keyword density is important but not in the same fashion as it used to be. So don’t get us wrong, keywords are a valuable asset to ones content creation. The tips we have given you above can help your posts and articles gain further reach and popularity, so go out there and experiment.
